THE ONE WHO IS FAITHFUL IN VERY LITTLE…

“The one who is faithful in a very little thing is also faithful in much; and the one who is unrighteous in a very little thing is also unrighteous in much.” Luke 16:10

What really makes a good and faithful servant? It has been said that in heaven “God will give bigger rewards to Christians with great attitudes than those with great achievements. He’ll reward the faithful more than the successful.” How easy it is to find ourselves competing with the worlds definition of who and what is a good servant. The proof for the worldly is in what one can put forth that will impress the eyes of man. Yet God does not see things the way we do.

In 1 Samuel 16: 1-23 there is recorded the quest for the next king of Israel. All of the sons of Jesse are paraded before the prophet Samuel and as Eliab is presented he thinks “Surely the Lord’s anointed is before Him.” But the Lord said to Samuel,

“Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at he heart.”

The word of God says “the eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth that He might strongly support those whose heart is completely His.” (2 Chron. 16:9) What God did not see in Eliab, or the older sons of Jesse He did see in the youngest son named David, that is that he had a heart after God. God saw his attitude long before David had any achievements or real success. He was a young man full of passion for God and the things of God. As a shepherd boy he learned faithfulness in the small things and accumulated victories in the smaller battles of life. It is not the size of the task that impresses God but the size of the heart behind the task.

An example of this is the way Jesus is moved by a poor widow putting in the smallest of coins into the offering. There were many rich people putting in large sums of money and in comparison to them she put in hardly anything. Jesus tells His disciples “Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the contributors to the treasury; for they all put in out of their surplus, but she out of her poverty, put in all she owned, all she had to live on.” (Mark 12:43-44)

Serve Him with all your heart knowing that He sees everything and asks that we keep an attitude of faithfulness.
