‘I AM’

“And God said to Moses, “I AM Who I AM;” and He said “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘I AM’ has sent me to you.” (Ex. 3:14)

Moses wanted to know the name of God because it represented power and authority.

In his earlier years Moses, who was raised by Pharaoh’s daughter, enjoyed the luxury of being under the name of Pharaoh as one in his household. It gave him great advantage and privilege and it made it all the more important for him to know the name he represented when he returned to Egypt to fulfill what God had called him to do.

God gave Moses a blank check, and for the next 40 years Moses filled in the blank with his need. Moses had little else to do than to take God’s blank check book, signed by God’s name and write “I AM deliverance,” “I AM guidance,” “I AM bread,” “I AM water,” and present the check to God and He honored it.

Joshua saw all this in the 40 year journey in the desert and the 30 years in the promised land and said, “Not one word of all the good words which the Lord your God spoke concerning you has failed; all have been fulfilled for you, not one of them has failed.” (Joshua 23:14)

From Old Testament to New Testament, the promises of God are sure.

It is not a wonder that when Jesus was speaking to His disciples about prayer that He said; “For where two or three have gathered together in My name, there I am in their midst.” (Matt. 18:20)

Was it merely a play on words or was He reminding us all that in prayer through Him, we have the same blank check to meet the needs?
