In Luke 17:11-19 there is the story of ten lepers shouting out to Jesus for help and mercy. He responds to them and tells them to go show themselves to the priests and the scripture says, “That as they were going they were cleansed.” (healed) Only one, when he saw he was healed, went back to Jesus glorifying God and fell at His feet thanking Him.
Jesus says, “Were there not ten cleansed? But the nine—where are they?”
I realize that most of us come to Jesus because we have a desperate need of some kind. Sometimes it’s the burden of our own sins, or the burden and pains of sins against us. It can be an illness with no solution or the anxieties of life that overwhelms us.
This passage reminds us that getting our needs met is the beginning of a life that in gratitude should expand from our needs to His wants.
If we really have come to know who He is, it’s no longer just about what He can do for us, but what can we do in honor of Him?
