HIRED HAND VS. THE SHEPHERD

He who is a hired hand and not a shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them.” John 10:12

Too many ministers see their ministry as an occupation and not a call. That is the difference between a hired hand and a shepherd. The hired hand will tend to look for better opportunities for himself while the shepherd cannot focus on anything but the welfare of the sheep in his care.
